The 80% Salvadoran Dark Chocolate with Toasted Almonds and Monhegan Sea Salt is our second collaboration with the Monhegan Museum of Art & History. The artwork on the box was created by the artist, Maud Briggs Knowlton, (1870-1956), one of the first women to direct a major American art museum and one of the few women to paint on Monhegan Island in the late 1890s. Her work is the focus of the Museum’s 2019 exhibition. The chocolate is sourced from Usulután, known for its untouched natural beauty and home to the largest abundance of coastal-marine birds in El Salvador. Cacao was first planted in the luscious sandy loam soil on our supplier’s farm near here about 100 years ago. The sea salt is harvested by us on Monhegan Island.
